| There was always a risk that lunching in late October at a Free House set deep in the foothills of the South Downs along winding narrow lanes was likely to be fraught. However, even with early morning thunderstorms and torrential rain, everyone 'entered into the spirit' and turned up, not only in club cars, but some superb alternatives. Pristine Rolls-Royce and Bentleys joined equally pristine Jaguars, Austin, Aston Martin, Bristol, Morgan, DMC Delorean, Citroen DS and a few 'moderns', all splattered equally with mud except for a trailered Massey Ferguson GTI displaying the new club banner. Not only was the car parking stretched to the limit, but so was the restaurant but, with remarkable fortitude by both members and staff, we were eventually accommodated in what might be described as a very warm and cosy manner. It all proved to be well worthwhile with lots of chat, some superb food and good company, and of course some lovely motor cars.
