LUNCH AT THE UNICORN INN, HEYSHOTT Sunday 16 March 2014

"The way to ensure summer in England is to have it framed and glazed in a comfortable room". So wrote Horace Walpole in 1774.

There was no need to do this for our gathering at The Unicorn as the sun laid it on thick for us all day under a cloudless blue sky, as

fifty-five Club members and their guests assembled with twenty-five of our cars, which managed to fit just comfortably into the car park at this delightful inn at the foot of the South Downs. We were able to enjoy pre-lunch drinks outside to enjoy the scenery and marvel, sometimes with covetous eyes, at the select display of our cars covering ninety years of Rolls-Royce and Bentley production. It was soon time to enjoy a traditional Sunday lunch, served most efficiently and enjoyed by all in the restaurant and bar which was packed to capacity, but comfortably so. All in all a very convivial meeting soon came to an end when it was time to start engines for the journey home and soak up some more of the Sussex countryside.
