Voyaging Out: British Women Artists from Suffrage to the Sixties

Carolyn Trant looks at what it meant to be radical and modern from the early 20s through to the 60s and beyond

Carolyn Trant explores how women artists navigated this new modern Britain, contributing to the campaigns for women’s suffrage and anti-fascist organisations.

Carolyn Trant is an artist and writer. Her books include ‘Art for Life: The Story of Peggy Angus’ and, most recently, ‘Voyaging Out: British Women Artists from Suffrage to the Sixties’, which looks at women artists in the context of themes such as social change, personal relationships and friendship groups, examining their involvement with politics and war and their roles as environmentalists, educators and activists.
