With the summer holidays almost upon us, it's time to plan some top, family-friendly ideas of things to do in Chichester over the summer break.
Head down to your local West Sussex Library and register to take part in their FREE summer reading challenge. This year, West Sussex Libraries are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing with their 'Space Chase' Summer Reading Challenge. Children taking part in the challenge will help space family the Rockets in their thrilling mission to recover books that have been borrowed by cheeky aliens.
It’s free for families to take part and you have all summer to collect fun rewards as you read and complete the challenge and it's a fantastic way to get your own space invaders interested in reading over the holidays. You can register here to take part and find your local library here.
Every Wednesday throughout August, The Weald & Downland Living Museum offers different fun, family-themed activities. Join them this summer as they explore a different period in history each week. Find out and explore activities from the Saxons, Tudors, Victorians and 1920's eras. To help keep it budget friendly opt for their Annual Membership Pass. With an annual membership, you can visit the museum as often as you like, plus membership includes entry to the museum's annual calendar events such as Saddles & Steam 17-18 August, but that's not all. You'll only need to visit the museum three times in the year to pay back the price of the membership. That's summer sorted!
For a blow-your-socks-off family event the, West Dean Gardens Chilli Fiesta 9-11 August 2019, promises to be a sizzling day out for the whole family. Offering children's activities, a vintage funfair, outdoor cinema, live music, artisan food and drink; plus cookery and gardening demonstrations from top-chefs and gardeners and stalls selling gifts and produce. This family-friendly festival is a culinary delight that's not just for chilli lovers but for the whole family to enjoy.
What would summer be without a Crabbing Competition? On 10 August, Chichester Harbour Conservancy is holding a crabbing competition at the Harbour Education Centre, Dell Quay. Turn up with your buckets and lines and be ready to get down to the serious business of netting those crabs! The top three winners will receive prizes and it promises to a crabtivating experience for all!
During the summer holidays, enjoy activities around Amberley Museum and take part in their family trail. Discover the South’s working past, learn about technology through the years, and have fun riding the narrow gauge train and historic bus around the beautiful 36 acre site.
Children can explore different art techniques each week this summer with Pallant House Gallery's summer workshop programme.

Every Thursday in August, Fishbourne Roman Palace is offering an opportunity to to travel back in time 2,000 years and experience life in Roman times with lots of craft activities and things to make and do. Activities are included in the admission charge and children must be accompanied by an adult.
