Head down to your local West Sussex Library and register to take part in their FREE summer reading challenge. This year, West Sussex Libraries are celebrating 80 years of the Beano magazine with their 'Mischief Makers'. With fun rewards, a puzzle to solve plus a medal and certificate for children who read six books or more, it's a fantastic way to get your own mischief makers interested in reading over the holidays. Every Wednesday throughout August, The Weald & Downland Living Museum offers different fun, family-themed activities. Join them this summer as they explore the five senses of sight, sound, smell, taste and touch through crafts, storytelling and music over five weeks. To help keep it budget friendly opt for their Annual Membership Pass. With an annual membership, you can visit the museum as often as you like, plus membership includes entry to the museum's annual calendar events such as The Vintage & Steam Show 18-19 August, but that's not all. You'll only need to visit the museum three times in the year to pay back the price of the membership. That's summer sorted!
For a blow-your-socks-off family event, West Dean Gardens Chilli Fiesta 10-12 August, promises to be a sizzling day out for the whole family. Offering children's activities, a vintage funfair, outdoor cinema, live music, artisan food and drink; plus cookery and gardening demonstrations from top-chefs and gardeners and stalls selling gifts and produce. This family-friendly festival is a culinary delight that's not just for chilli lovers but for the whole family to enjoy.
What would summer be without a Crabbing Competition? On 10 August, Chichester Harbour Conservancy is holding a crabbing competition at the Harbour Education Centre, Dell Quay. Turn up with your buckets and lines and be ready to get down to the serious business of netting those crabs! The top three winners will receive prizes and it promises to a crabtivating experience for all!
