Chichester City Walls 7

Here it is worth seeing the outer perimeter of the Walls. Take the footpath alongside the River Lavant, which flows intermittently. Then enter the Bishop's Palace Gardens to take the parapet walk, either via Canon Lane, off South Street, or by the gate at Westgate.

Not so long ago cattle grazed right up to the City Walls. At this point the uninterrupted length of the Walls can be appreciated.

From up on the Walls you get a close-up view of the imposing Cathedral and its slender 277ft high spire.

In the Bishop's Palace Garden climb the ramped bank to the Roman Wall. You will appreciate the views of the lawns.

Walk into the 4th century bastion, look out onto the ring road and see the well kept playing field and public open spaces.
