Glimpses of the remains of the Walls can be seen through
buildings and private gardens from Market Road. On top of the bastions perch gazebos and garden
pleasure rooms. These semi-circular bastions were added in the 4th century to improve the City's defences.
The Walls provide a great walking opportunity with excellent views over
the City and surrounding parkland.
These quaint additions to the original bastions are interesting features
of a bygone era but are inaccessible to visitors.
A summer house built on the embankment of the Walls and still in private
use.
An early Victorian gazebo built on the old bastion adds romance to the scene.
