VISIT TO ENGLAND'S LARGEST VINEYARD, DENBIES
London Road, Dorking - Saturday 11 October 2003
Members began arriving around 10.30am at these splendid premises set to the
backdrop of some south facing Surrey hills. A pleasure to bring out the
Club car on another bright sunny day which we have been fortunate enough to
enjoy this season. Our tour started in the 360ç cinema with a film showing
the fascinating world of wine and an introduction to Denbies. Our guide
then directed us to the 'people mover' train, which took us through each
stage of the working winery, and down to the cellars for a tasting of three
of Denbies wines, a short talk and an opportunity to ask questions. Some
members visited the Gallery Wine Bar at the top of the tower to appreciate
the panoramic views across the vines and beyond to all points of the
compass. Moving slowly (or quickly?) through the well-stocked gift shop our
party made its way to the Garden Room where we all enjoyed a pre-booked
lunch. After lunch some members took advantage of the fine weather to walk
into the vineyard or just to chat around our display of around twenty Club
cars.
