RETURN VISIT TO AVINGTON PARK, NEAR WINCHESTER
Sunday 27 July 2003

Thirty club cars from Wessex, Surrey and Central Southern Sections gathered in the warm summer sunshine on the beautiful front lawn of Avington Park, one-time home of Lady Shelley-Rolls (sister of The Hon CS Rolls). This beautiful house, with parts dating back to the 1600s, is really the ideal location for any section event. The house itself has to be one of the very few stately homes that, when you are shown from room to room, the guide (the very knowledgable and humorous Vera Edwards) actually invites you to sit down on the antique chairs and sofas!

It was nice to see many Section friends and to meet some new faces, especially Guy and Fiona Peploe from Winchester in the open Phantom I Tourer (Guy also has two Phantom II 'D' back limousines, a Silver Spirit and a Silver Shadow). It was also nice to see our treasurer, Michael Marriage, up and about following a recent knee operation.

The owner of Avington Park, Mrs Sarah Bullen, made us all very welcome and would like us to go back every year if we could! The grounds are very well kept and totally level, the only incline being the beautiful staircase built in 1740 BS (Before Stannah).

All in all a really lovely day was had by all with many members staying till six o'clock and beyond.
