'ROSES AND ROLLS-ROYCE EXTRAVAGANZA', BORDE HILL GARDENS - Sunday 16 June 2002

Following our successful inaugural visit in 2001, thirty-six Club cars returned to Borde Hill House and Gardens near Haywards Heath for a 'Roses and Rolls-Royce' spectacular on Sunday 16 June.

This year, members arriving early were invited to display their cars at the front of the house next to a marquee in which a wide variety of roses was on display. Two rooms of the house, most notable for the magnificent ceiling, one boasted made from wood felled from the estate, were also open for viewing. Other Club cars were displayed on the expansive if, on the day, a little squelchy, lawns to the rear of the house.

Despite the dull and damp conditions, members were able to explore the splendid gardens and the delights of the tea room and/or the adjacent and excellent 'Jeremy's' restaurant. A well-stocked on-sight garden centre completed the pleasures of the day and even the sun began to shine around 4pm.

A light hearted concours was arranged with a prize being awarded by lady of the house Mrs Stephenson-Clarke to Jim Denne's magnificent Phantom II.

A repeat visit is planned for 2003.
