SIR HENRY ROYCE MEMORIAL MEETING AT ELMS LANE, WEST WITTERING
Monday 22 April 2013

On 22 April, as usual, members of our Section gathered outside Elmstead House in West Wittering for a short service to celebrate the life and skills of Sir Henry Royce. This year was the 80th anniversary of his death, and we were pleased to welcome in particular our good friends from Austria, Gottfried and Christine Kern, who had made the journey to be with us for this 'special year'. The service was conducted by the new Rector of the parish, The Rev'd Jonathan Swindells.

Afterwards everybody joined David and Jackie Gray at their home next door for a glass of wine and nibbles. Whilst there, Ted Meachem, Section Secretary, presented Jackie with a bouquet of flowers and thanked her and David for their hospitality. Andrew Ball of RRMC said a few words about the Company and the growing strength of the relationship between them and the heritage of the marque (considerably influenced by the link with our Section).

At about 1pm most of those present drove to Chichester Yacht Club for a two course lunch.

Yet again (for the tenth year running) the weather was dry and sunny, albeit a little on the chilly side. Long may it continue so, maybe a bit warmer though!
