Past Events

Wednesday 16 January 2013

It was discussed at committee last year that a few midweek events might be appreciated by our members. We recognise that whilst the majority of members are retired, there are quite a few that aren't, so we generally opt for weekend events as being available and acceptable to all.

Crouchers Hotel, near Chichester, is a venue we have used in the past. It was selected as being an appropriate location for a trial midweek lunch. Despite or in spite of the prevailing weather and road conditions, both before and after 16 January we risked this very early in the year event.

The day was glorious - most members risked their Club cars. Some, like me, opted not to. My excuse was that we were having fourteen tonnes of asphalt laid on the drive and it was impossible to get a car out of the garage, the weather having delayed the work by several days.

About forty members turned out to what, it has to be said, was a truly splendid lunch at Crouchers Hotel. The event was ably managed by a truly attentive head waiter, Carlo, who tended our needs above and beyond the call of duty. The waitresses were almost invisible but efficient and the food was without doubt first class.
