MUSEUM OF NAVAL FIREPOWER, GOSPORT
Sunday 21 September 2008

Eighteen cars from both Central Southern and Wessex Sections made a fine display at The Museum of Naval Firepower 'Explosion' at Priddy's Hard, Gosport for our last picnic event of 2008. The weather was perfect with warm sun and very little wind. Perhaps this encouraged Michael Whittemore to bring along his splendid Phantom II for us all to admire.

We were able to park our cars together and then set up our picnic tables on the Museum lawn for a very pleasant lunch and natter. There were hardly any other visitors to the Museum while we were there so most of the time we had all of the facilities to ourselves.

This made for a very peaceful and relaxing day for everyone, except perhaps Bob and Mo Stanbridge, who went for a walk and arrived back to collect their Derby Bentley about an hour after the Museum had closed. To their dismay they found that all of the perimeter gates were securely locked with their car still inside. Fortunately, the local Police knew of a helpful employee of the Gosport Council who came to the rescue with a large bunch of keys. Much to Bob and Mo's relief, their car was soon released and, a little later than they had intended, they were able to set out for home.
