| It is always a little disappointing when heavy rain is forecast on the day we are due to meet up for a picnic. Nevertheless, nineteen cars containing fifty-five born optimists turned up at Hinton Ampner where we displayed our cars in front of the House. The Property Manager, James Taylor came to welcome us and gave an interesting introduction to the history of the House.
We had ample time to explore the gardens and meet the Head Gardener who was happy to answer any gardening questions - all to the gentle rumbling of thunder overhead. The rain held off and the sun shone while we had our picnics and explored the House. Then a torrential cloudburst caused us to repair rapidly to the tea rooms, or back into the House, before happily setting out for home.
