UPPARK HOUSE, SOUTH HARTING - Sunday 5 August 2001

Forty one cars and ninety members and friends gathered on a fine Sunday morning to visit and display their cars at Uppark, five miles south east of Petersfield in Hampshire. This is a fine 17th Century house run by the National Trust, set high on the South Downs with magnificent views out over the countryside as far as the Isle of Wight.

We were lucky with the weather and also in the fact that we were able to display our cars on the east lawn next to the house.

The house was almost destroyed by fire in 1989 but has now been fully restored. Many of the fine paintings and textiles were thankfully removed before the fire destroyed the roof and upper floors.

It was again nice to meet new members and those from other sections who joined us on the day. Our thanks are due to Simon Buck and Andrew Honour for all the organisation which, as always, went like clockwork.
