AVINGTON PARK, NEAR WINCHESTER
Sunday 30 July 2006

A perfect late July day greeted twenty-five Club cars from Central Southern and Wessex Section for a return visit to Avington Park near Winchester. The owners of Avington - Charlie and Sarah Bullen - always make us feel welcome and 'at home' - which of course we almost are due to the house having been in the one-time ownership of Lady Shelley-Rolls, sister to the Hon CS Rolls and to whom there is a small but colourful memorial in the house. The guided tours of the house interior also enabled us to view the delightful staterooms followed by a refreshing cuppa in the charming surrounds of the conservatory and orangery. As always, our cars provided an elegant display on the lawn in front of the house where picnics were the order of the day despite the odd gust from a refreshing breeze.
