VISIT TO FIRLE PLACE, NEAR LEWES
Sunday 19 June 2005
Set in extensive parklands beneath the South Downs, Firle Place near Lewes has been the magnificent
stately home of the Gage family for over five hundred years. The original Tudor house, remodelled
in the 18th century, contains diverse collections of art treasures accumulated by the family over
the years.
Our visit this year was a joint affair with members from South Eastern section and friends from
the Bentley Drivers' Club. The motor cars were displayed on the lawns in front of the house where
members enjoyed their picnics in the beautiful sunny weather. During the afternoon many went on
a tour of the house. |
