Chichester Chamber of Commerce and Industry hold an annual competition for businesses in the town centre to show their artistic colourful hanging baskets and troughs. The cold wet start in the spring, followed by the blistering heat of the summer did little to help the growth of the summer flowers. Nevertheless many of the shops in the City made great efforts to bedeck their frontages with colourful blooms. The judges were very impressed with the gardens of the public houses in the City, where the publicans had made their outside eating areas an excellent colourful place for customers to enjoy their drinks and food in the long hot summer evenings.

First prize for licensed premises went to The Bush Inn in the Hornet with a close runner-up of Chanterelle Restaurant in St Pancras. The winner for unlicensed premises was Boots The Chemist in East Street and Casa Fina as runner-up. A special Honorary Certificate was won by Hadleys Restaurant in West Street.

Both the winners will receive a £100 cheque and trophy - with certificates and a bottle of champagne to the runners-up.
